Daily Devotional - Transition to Power - WK25 - 06/17/24 - Day 148 - “Pressing On Towards The Goal"
Author: Evangelist Lisa L. Dalton
Author: Evang. Lisa L. Dalton
Devotion: Pressing On Towards the Goal
Scripture: Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV)
“Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus”
Reflection: The apostle Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, provides profound insight into the Christian journey. He admits that he has not yet reached perfection, but emphasizes the
importance of perseverance and focus. This passage reminds us that our spiritual growth is a continuous process, and encourages us to keep moving forward, regardless of past failures or successes.
Key Points:
1. Acknowledging Imperfection: Paul humbly admits that he has not yet “taken hold; of
the ultimate goal”. This humility is crucial for our spiritual lives, as it keeps us reliant on
God’s grace rather than our own strength. We must acknowledge that we are works in
progress.
2. Forgetting What Is Behind: Paul advises us to forget the past. This does not mean we
erase our memories, but rather we do not let past mistakes, regrets, or even achievements
hinder our current and future progress. We must let go of anything that holds us back and
focus on what lies ahead.
3. Straining Toward What is Ahead: The imagery of “straining” suggests effort and
determination. Our Christian Walk requires active pursuit and dedication. This means
setting our sights on the goal and pushing through challenges and obstacles with faith and
persistence.
4. Pressing on Toward the Goal: Paul uses the metaphor of a race, emphasizing
the need to press on towards the finish line. Our ultimate prize is not earthly, but
heavenly. It is the calling we have in Christ Jesus, to be with Him eternally and to be
made like Him.
As you continue to transition to power, let’s apply these things:
1. Daily Focus: Begin each day by setting your intention to move forward in your faith.
Spend time in prayer, asking God to help you let go of past burdens and focus on His
plans for you.
2. Perseverance: When faced with difficulties, remember Paul’s example. Do not be
discouraged by setbacks. Instead, see them as opportunities to grow and to rely more on
God’s strength.
3. Vision: Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Regularly
remind yourself of the eternal prize that awaits and let it motivate your daily walk with
God.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the calling You have given us in Christ Jesus. Help us to forget what is behind and to strain toward what is ahead. Give us the strength and perseverance to press on towards the goal, knowing that our ultimate prize is found in You. Keep our hearts and minds focused on Your will and guide us every step of the way. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
