The love between a man and a woman is beautiful from the beginning stages of mere infatuation up to the real declaration of love. However, that love is even more beautiful when God is at the center of it all. My love story started on the campus of NCAT, sitting in a college chemistry class together. My husband and I became study partners, trying to make it through Dr. Gravely’s class with passing grades. Then, we became friends who prayed together, read our word together, and mutually shared a love of God together. Anyone that knows me, knows that I absolutely love poetry. How awesome is it that we find these beautiful, poetic words of love spoken in the Song of Solomon? In today’s scripture, the speaker is declaring that she belongs to her love, and he belongs to her. He has gone away for a short while, but she is awaiting his swift return.

The Song of Solomon is a love story that glorifies in the excitement of courtship and details the passionate love between a man and a woman as they go through the different stages of their relationship. The author of the book is said to be King Solomon, and his love interest is believed to be a Shulamite woman. Most theologians have read Soloman’s song as an allegory of the love Christ has for the church, and the love that the church should have for her Savior. The central subject of the book is love. God is love, so when you love God and put Him first, loving others becomes so much easier.

Prayer
Lord help me to love and put you first. Bless my relationships so that they exemplify your love. Help me to love my wife/husband the way you love the church and let that love continue to grow daily. Amen.
