Daily Devotional - Day 19: (01/19): Whoever Wants to Become Great Among You Must Be Your Servant

Devotional:
Nowadays everyone wants to be great. While that sounds good, we have to be willing to accept the call to greatness. Some folk are great in their own minds. Not to be confused with confidence or self esteem. But we have to be careful not to get the “big head” because we are gifted and chosen. In God’s house, I believe that in order to be great, you must first learn and serve. I once heard a preacher say “If you’re too big to follow, You’re too small to lead.” I have taken that advice personally and applied it to how I serve. Jesus gave us the example in Matthew. He tells us that “whoever desires to become great, let him be a servant.” There is a great deal that we can learn from this text, but if I had to choose two key terms to focus on here, they would be “humility” and “servitude.” The two go hand in hand and God is letting us know that we have to serve and stay humble if we want to be great. Let us always remember to remain humble and to stay faithful in servitude, so that we truly become great in God.

Prayer: 
Father God, help us to be Your servants, so that we can be true leaders. Help us to always remain humble. Teach us how to be great in You and not of ourselves or in our own minds. Thank you Lord. Amen.
