The Power & Authority of Jesus

Mark 9:25-27
25 When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter  no more into him. 26 And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead. 27 But Jesus took him by
the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.

Devotion:
At times it can be easy to allow doubt to enter into our minds and decrease our faith in God. When we find ourselves in a place of doubt, or where it seems as though our situation may be hopeless, or even impossible, we have to continue to have faith in the God of the Bible. We must know that He is able to meet each and every one of our needs if we just supply the faith.  
In Mark chapter 9, we witness a father who is in desperate need of help for his son, who is possessed by an unclean spirit. The father brings his concern straight to Jesus after the disciples were unsuccessful in casting out the spirit from his son. Jesus was able to speak directly to the spirit and command it to come out of the boy. When the spirit left the boy’s body, it appeared to the crowd that he was dead. However, Jesus was in control of the situation, He took the boy by the hand and lifted him up and the boy got up. In that moment, the boy received a new life.

Just like the boy in our text today, Jesus can give us a new life in the midst of what seems like a dead situation to us. Remember, when these situations come about, if we have faith in the power & authority of Jesus, He is able to meet our every need.

Prayer:
Lord, we thank you for being the God of the impossible. Help us to believe in your almighty power, even in grim times. Help us to know that what looks impossible to us is Just right for you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
