 “Work Smarter, Not Harder”
“For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out of cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water."
Jeremiah 2:13

Devotional:
This right here is one of the mottos I have for myself – work smarter, not harder. In the natural, this means if I can get my work done in 2 hours, I don’t waste time. I get my work done in 2 hours and sit back and relax for the remaining 6. I don’t try to string projects along; I like to know what I am supposed to be doing and then I go do it. In the spiritual, the same mantra applies – when we give it to God, we should sit back and allow the blessings to flow. The children of Israel were choosing idols over the true and living God, which was likened to trying to put fresh water in broken cisterns. When we put our burdens, our cares, our problems, our lives in the hands of the Lord, we are to sit back and allow the blessings to flow over us. The problem comes in when we think we know how it’s supposed to happen, we think we know when it’s supposed to happen, and we think we need to help God make it happen. “No sir, no ma’am,” as Pastor would say!!! Put that thing in the hands of God and watch Him work!

The children of Israel caused a lot of turmoil and headache and heartache and even death to come upon themselves because they chose false gods over the true and living God. They would trust for a while or until it got difficult – sound familiar? We jump and exclaim, “I believe God” and “I trust God”, but do we really? Take a moment to examine yourselves and ask yourself, Am I trying to do God’s job? Am I putting clean water in a dirty, broken cistern? When we allow the pure living water to flow to us, we can be reminded that God’s timing is not our timing and God’s ways are not our ways.

As we are headed to our destined wealthy place, remember work smarter, not harder. Put the problems in the hands of the Master – the true and living God. Remove the idols from your life and watch the rivers of living water flow into you and your family.

Prayer:
Father, thank you for the living water, which flows so purely and freely. Help me to remove myself from the equation so that I am not contaminating the living water with my dirty vessel.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
