 The Gift of Grace

Eph. 2:8-9 
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast. (KJV)

Devotional:
We hear people talk about the grace and mercy of God as it relates to us not getting what we deserve when doing something we think disappoints God. First let’s set the record straight, we could never disappoint Him. Remember, the gifts He gives us cannot be taken back. Christ Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross was a gift from God for us. So, we can relax in that thought of disappointing God.

Secondly, Paul reminded us in verses 1-3 that we were once sons of disobedience walking according to the flesh, according to the prince of the power of the air. Basically, living for the devil. But the God we now serve has so much mercy for us. He actually said He was rich in mercy. Meaning, He has an abundance of mercy that He could never run out. He has enough for the entire world and for those who aren’t even born yet. Not only that, but Paul also tells us that even when we were dead and still in our trespasses, we were made alive with Christ Jesus by grace and have been saved and seated together with Christ Jesus in the heavenly places. Wow, what a gift.

Paul lets us know that we could never do anything to receive the gift of grace from God. We can’t work for it nor buy it. All we have to do is receive it. Why would Paul say that it’s not because of works that any man should boast? Because God alone can save. Our salvation did not come because of what we did, salvation came because of God’s loving kindness towards us. We were saved when Christ Jesus died on the cross for us. The gift was released to the world at that very moment. All the world has to do now is receive the gift.
As we continue the Journey to Pentecost, thank God for the gift of Grace through Christ Jesus. That is something we could never repay Him for. That my friends is enough for us to be thankful for.

Lord thank You for Your gift of Grace through Christ Jesus. Thank You for Your lovingkindness and the unlimited mercy that I receive every morning. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
