“Dwelling in God’s Goodness Forever”
 Scripture: Psalm 23:6 (KJV)

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

Devotion:
Psalm 23 is one of the most familiar and most quoted passages of Scripture. It’s a psalm of comfort and assurance penned by David himself. Verse 6 brings the psalm to a powerful close, pointing to the eternal hope we have in God’s presence. It declares that God’s goodness and love pursue us, not just for a season, but for all the days of our lives—and beyond, into eternity.

David’s declaration of God’s goodness and love following him reveals the relentless nature of God’s care. This isn’t a passive, distant love, but an active, pursuing love. As we discussed in yesterday’s lesson, even when we stray, God’s goodness and mercy chase after us, drawing us back into His embrace. This verse reminds us that our relationship with God is not just about a temporary experience of His blessings but about eternal fellowship with Him. To dwell in His house is to live in His presence, both now and forever.

Isn’t it good to know that God’s goodness and mercy are not conditional on our perfection? Because we are sometimes a mess, but His love seeks us out, even in our failures and struggles. The phrase “All the days of my life” points to God’s provision and protection through every season—good or bad. We know that we can trust that His hand is always at work in our lives. The promise to “dwell in the house of the Lord forever” assures us of eternal life with God. This life is just the beginning of an unending relationship with Him.

Saints, when life feels overwhelming, meditate on the truth that God’s goodness and mercy are always with you, pursuing you even when you feel unworthy. Make it a daily practice to see God’s goodness in your life, even in small ways. Gratitude opens our eyes to His constant care. Let the promise of eternal life inspire how you live today. Seek to dwell in God’s presence daily through prayer, worship, and His Word. The text today assures us that God’s love is steadfast, and His presence is unchanging. No matter how far you’ve wandered or how hard life has been, His goodness is chasing after you even now. Remember the words of the song made famous by CeCe Winans, “Your goodness is running after me.” I dare you to take a moment to reflect on how God’s goodness and mercy have followed you through different seasons of your life and begin to thank Him for His faithfulness. As we close, know that God’s goodness and love are with you today, tomorrow, and forever. Trust in His promise to be with you always.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your goodness and mercy that follow me every day. Thank You for the promise of eternal life in Your presence. Help me to trust in Your unfailing love, even when circumstances are difficult. May my life be a reflection of Your goodness to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen
