Blessed Are Those Who Hunger

Matthew 5:6
6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Devotional:
As people of God, we are never satisfied to the fullest. We are forever thriving to pursue righteousness (a right standing with God our Father). Here’s an example: Do you remember the woman at the well in Samaria? After Jesus identified Himself to her, she began a life thirsting for the righteousness of God. Despite her living a sinful life, she left Jesus with Joy and Hope.

Our deepest desire and longing should be to be like Jesus in everything we do in life. We should walk daily in the power He’s given us through The Holy Spirit. It is by reading and studying His word that we discover His ways and character. Through studying the word of God, we learn how to apply to our lives what we’ve learned and can teach others. Getting into His presence everyday will develop a lasting hunger for our God.

Hunger and thirst are natural forces that keep us alive. Our desire for righteousness is a force that will lead us to life. Just like Jesus went to Calvary and submitted Himself to the cross, He felt bodily thirst too, but didn't give up. He went through and it was finished for us all.

As you go throughout your day today, let’s not just think about what we will have for lunch or dinner. Let your hunger be for more of God. Let people see you growing more in the character of God as you continue to feast on His righteousness.

Prayer:
Father in Jesus name, I pray that we Your people will develop an appetite to hunger and thirst for righteousness. I pray that we will have a desire to seek and receive more of You. To live a life that’s pleasing unto You. Help us to remember how much You love us. Your word declares if anyone thirsts, let him come to You and drink, according to John 7:37-38, “out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” Thank you for blessing us the more as we hunger and thirst for You.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
