 I’ll Be a Witness

Heb. 12:1-2
12 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Devotional:
If you’ve been in the church for any amount of time, I’m sure you’ve witnessed the faith of so many of the Saints. We’ve seen people with incredible faith to believe God for the impossible. I can recall the revivals and crusades our Founder, Bishop J.H. Sherman would hold. There would be people walking in the service on crutches who would leave carrying them. I’ve witnessed people get up from wheelchairs, leaving pushing the chair. I’ve witnessed people being healed from boils, blindness, cancer, and people being raised from hospital beds and leaving completely healed. What a great cloud of witnesses they were for me and for those who were there.

That’s the same kind of faith mentioned here in Hebrews. The previous scriptures mention the faith of David and Samuel and the prophets who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouth of lions, quenched the violence of fire, and escaped the edge of the sword. Out of their weakness they were made strong and became valiant in battle. Our forefathers went through some mighty hardships all in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ. But yet they did not receive the promise, i.e., The Holy Spirit. They had great faith but did not have the Greatest Power. The Holy Ghost power.

This scripture reminds us that all we have to do is lay aside every heavy weight and the sin that so easily snares us and run with endurance the race that is set before us. And what is that race? Looking to Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith. Jesus endured the cross for us, so that we wouldn’t have to stand before the cross. That my friend is great faith. We can stand in and on the faith of Jesus Christ. He is the solid rock of faith that we need.

As you go throughout your day today, remember, whatever you’re faced with, you can lean on the faith of Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith. It is not through us that we conquer the enemy, it is through Christ Jesus that we conquer the enemy. Remember, the enemy is already defeated.

Prayer:
Lord thank You for showing me examples of what real solid faith in You looks like. Thank You for leaving us the promise of The Holy Spirit to help us maneuver through life and believing that Your faith will get us through it all. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
