“Leaders in Christ”
 Scripture: Acts 20:28
 
“Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”
 
Devotion:
Paul spoke to the Ephesian leaders, the elders of the church, in verse 28, because he was about to go to Jerusalem where he knew he would be imprisoned.  He wanted to make sure that they took care of the church that was entrusted to them.  Being a leader comes with great responsibility; and when one is called to lead God’s people, they are called to look out for their souls. Paul first told them to take heed therefore unto themselves, because as leaders, one has to make sure that they themselves are right with God. If they are not right, they will not be good examples to lead the people of God in the way that they should go.  Leaders have to be in constant prayer, making sure they are hearing from God, that they are living right in the presence of God as well as when they are in private. When leading God’s people, it is imperative that leaders know their assignment.  As leaders in the church they are not called to lead the people astray, but to ask God for the wisdom, through the Holy Spirit, to lead His people with humility, integrity and compassion.
 
Prayer:
Lord we pray that You would look on every leader and direct them to lead according to Your will. Help Your leaders to take heed to themselves and to have compassion for all of those in their care. Thank You for the precious blood of Jesus Christ that purchased the salvation of all that believe. In Jesus’ name. Amen
