Daily Devotional - Discipleship - WK40 - 9/29/24 - Month of Prayer - Day 29 "Fear God"
Author: Evangelist Jamie Hoffman
“Fear God!”
Scripture: Ecclesiastics 12:13
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.”
Devotion:
One of the greatest plots of the old nasty stinking dirty devil is to make us fear everything but God. Look at the state of our world. The fear and admonition of God have become as cold as man's love. Yet, the wrong type of fear is prevalent and palpable everywhere you go. A very common acronym for fear is false evidence appearing real. If it comes from the enemy, it’s a lie, because he is the father of lies. That is why the word of God tells us we should be, “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5 KJV).
We can’t entertain the enemy or play with him, we have to cast down his lies. When he speaks death to us; we speak life. When he attacks our body; we speak healing. When he attacks our minds; we speak deliverance. The dirty devil seeks to keep us bound by fear tactics that have nothing to do with God so he can keep us further away from God. When in reality, the only fear we should have is of God. God has all the power. He alone can heal, deliver, and set us free. I get so sick and tired of the dirty devil and his distractions sent to keep kingdom business from going forth. Ultimately, the devil will have to bow down and acknowledge Jesus as Lord. That’s why he does everything in his power to distract us from that truth. When I say “us” I don’t mean unbelievers, I mean, “we the believers” of God. He doesn’t want us living the abundant life of victory we are supposed to be living through Jesus Christ. Because he knows that when we truly walk in the freedom and purpose that God has ordained for our lives, we will be formidable to his mess. We will see a real change in this world when the people of God really get free. (See 2 Chronicles 7:14)
Instead of us focused on letting our lights shine and drawing others to Christ, the old nasty devil wants us worrying, doubting, and fearing what man can do. Oh, no, what will people say about me? What do people think about me? Do I look saved enough? He wants our fear of this world to outweigh our faith in God. The devil is a liar! God's opinion of us should concern us more than man's. I used to worry myself sick over what people thought about me and different situations, and then I had to ask myself. Jamie, where is your faith? Are you more concerned with people liking you or with God’s love for you? I want God’s purpose and will to be done in my life. Everything that does not honor, reverence, and glorify God, I want to be uprooted and cast out. We have to get wise to the fear tactics of the enemy and cast his lies down by speaking the word of God. My faith is in God! I fear only God! I will obey God!
Prayer:
Lord, help me place my faith and trust in You. I rebuke the spirit of fear that would keep me bound, and I walk in obedience to the purpose You have placed in my life. Amen.
