“Speak With Grace!”
Scripture: Colossians 4:5-6

“Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

Devotion:
In college, I studied journalism, and I learned the importance of using words to report the news from an objective perspective. We were often told as writers, this story isn't about you, it’s about the facts. Well, we can apply that same concept to how we speak and interact with unbelievers about the good news. It’s not about us, it’s about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We don’t have the right or ability to judge and condemn anyone else. The fact is, we were all saved by grace, and God sent His son Jesus to redeem us all back to Him. I can’t earn my salvation. I don’t deserve it. I could never repay it. But I am so glad God saved me. When we speak to others, it must be from a place of love and compassion, not judgment and condemnation. We can let them know that what God did for us, He will and can do for them.

In our scripture today, Paul is giving instructions to the people of God on how to speak to unbelievers. He tells them to make the most of every opportunity and to be wise in how they carry themselves. He encourages them to speak with wisdom and grace. Unbelievers are watching us. They want to know if we are sincere saints or lying aint’s.

Our lives may be the only Bible they read or church they attend. Therefore, we have to make sure our lives and words line up with the word of God. Sometimes, I struggle with responding and saying the right thing. However, I’ve learned that if I lead with love, and I allow the Holy Spirit to guide my tongue, God will give me the words to say. Our charge, as disciples of God, is to share His good news. When we do that effectively, we encourage others to become followers of Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, help us speak life and encourage others to follow You. Amen.
