Restored Promises

Scripture: But upon mount Zion shall be deliverance, and there shall be holiness; and the house of Jacob shall possess their possessions. Obadiah 1:17 (KJV)

Devotion:
In this brief yet powerful book, Obadiah speaks of God's judgment on Edom, a nation that had wronged Israel. However, amidst the judgment, Obadiah 1:17 brings a message of hope for God’s people. It reminds us that despite the trials, God promises deliverance, restoration, and holiness to those who remain faithful to Him.

Mount Zion symbolizes God’s dwelling place, a place where His presence brings deliverance. For Israel, this meant freedom from their enemies and a return to their inheritance. In our lives, it represents God’s power to save and redeem us from any situation or stronghold that seeks to destroy us. No matter how dire our circumstances appear, we are reminded that God’s deliverance is always near for those who trust in Him.

This verse also speaks of holiness. God desires His people to be set apart, reflecting His character in the way they live. True deliverance is not just freedom from external trials but also a transformation of the heart to walk in the righteousness God calls us to.

Lastly, Obadiah speaks of the inheritance of Jacob being restored. This is a reminder that God’s promises are sure. Just as He restored Israel, God is faithful to restore us to the blessings and purposes He has for our lives.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your promise of deliverance and restoration. Help me to trust in Your saving power, no matter the trials I face. Guide me to walk in holiness and help me to remember that Your promises are sure. Restore me, Lord, to the inheritance You have for me, and help me to live a life that honors You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
