Let Us Not Love in Word

1 John 3:18
18) My little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but indeed and in truth.

Devotional:
 I love the previous verse, 17) But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his bother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him? When I read both scriptures, it lets me know that love is an action word.  Talk comes cheap.  I can tell you I love you day in and day out, but when you know I’m going through and you have the ability to help and CHOOSE not to, well.

God loved us so much that He sent His only begotten Son (Jesus) to offer Himself for our sins.  Now that’s some love.  Nothing we have or will ever do will be enough to deserve His love.  So, the next time you see someone you know that is going through, offer to be of assist and mean it from your heart.

The first thing that comes to our mind is money, but there are so many more things that our sisters and brothers need other than money.  You don’t have to broadcast it. Just do what you do like Matthew 6:3-4, 3)  But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: 4) That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

As you go through out your day today, look for ways to be a blessing to someone in need. Even if it's just a hug. Let compassion lead you to action.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, help us to remember that love is an action word. And to show it as well as saying it. Help us to learn how to love the way You desire us to love; indeed and in truth. In Jesus' name, Amen.
