Daily Devotional Wk10 - Daniel Fast Day 17 - 03/05/24 - "I Will Not Talk in Class"
Author: Evangelist Lisa L. Dalton
“I Will Not Talk in Class” Deut. 6:4-9
Deut. 6:4-9
4 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord:
5 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
6 And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
7 And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.
8 And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.
9 And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.
Devotional:
I have always been that child who just talked too much. Lord Help. There were many days I had to stay after school and write on the chalkboard, “I will not talk in class!” My grandma would be so upset with me for getting in trouble, I would then have to write those same word on paper 100 times just for her. It makes me laugh now that I am an adult, and still do a lot of talking. But now I don’t get in trouble or stay after school to write on the chalkboard. If only we were made to write the words of The Lord on the chalkboards of our hearts, perhaps it would be easier for us to remember how much He loves us.
Then there were days when my grandma and I would study the Bible together. She was a Sunday School teacher and loved studying the Bible. I would have to read the memory verse and recite them for her. We would read the 23 Psalm and The Lord’s prayer. Then she would remind me of the wrath of God and if I disobeyed Him, I was going straight to hell. Thank God for grace.
In this scripture Moses is instructing the children of Israel to write God’s laws on tables and wear them around their necks so they wouldn’t break any of them. Moses encouraged the children of Israel to respond to the love of God. After all, He had done so much for them. Moses knew the people struggled with their love for God, as they often complained to Moses about their struggles since leaving Egypt. I believe this is why he told them to write God’s laws on tables. Not only were they to write the laws on tables and wear them on their wrists like we did when we were cheating on tests, but to also teach it to their children day and night.
Fortunately for us, we don’t have to worry about the laws of God, Jesus fulfilled those laws for us. It is finished. But we should study the word of God and have them so close to our hearts that we will never forget the sacrifice Jesus made for us and how much He loves us. Let’s not take that Love for granted.
As you go through day 17 of your Daniel fast, spend more time reading the word. Turn off the TV and social media. Set aside time to get to know His word better. Don’t just read the scripture but get to know what it means and how to apply it to your life, and remember to teach it to your children day and night.

Prayer:
Lord, I thank You for Your word that is written to give me life and hope. I thank You for opening my understanding of what Your word means to me and my family and teaching us how to apply it in our everyday lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
