“I Am a Kings Kid”

Matthew 6:33
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Devotional:
I’m sure many of us have jobs so we can live a comfortable life and provide for our families. Some of us have even made sacrifices to meet the demands of living in a world where the prices of everything have skyrocketed. Some of us have had to take jobs that we didn’t like, and jobs that have taken us away from Sunday morning worship.  Not because we wanted to, but because we had to. I believe it’s safe to say, some of us have even had to work two or three jobs just to make ends meet. I know I have.

However, that’s not the message Matthew is sharing with us in this scripture. Matthew says, we should seek the kingdom of God first. Now, let’s define the word seek. The definition of seek is – attempt or desire to obtain or achieve something. So, if we desire to have something we must seek or desire it  . In this case it's the kingdom of God. Wait, we haven’t defined the kingdom of God. The Kingdom of God is – the spiritual realm where God is King. Since God is a Spirit and He lives within us, then we are the kingdom of God. We have the power to reign on earth through Jesus Christ. Luke 17:21 “The kingdom of God is in the midst of you.” He is with us all the time.

Then Matthew says we should seek His righteousness. Meaning, to be in right standing with God. We know that Jesus took away all our sin on the cross and redeemed us back to God, therefore we can’t do anything else to make God love us any more than He already does. However, He wants us to put His desires before our desires. He wants us to seek after those things that's right in HIs eyes. He wants to show Himself strong in our lives.  

Matthew goes on to say, then all these things will be added. What are those things? Verse 28 identifies those things as clothes and food. Meaning the essential things we need to survive here on earth. God doesn’t want us working ourselves to death trying to survive. When we put Him first and seek His face, His desire, He will take care of us just like He does the lilies in the field. They neither toil nor spin and neither should we. He wants your soul resting in His promises. Promises of peace, joy, and love.

As you go through day 16 of your Daniel fast, take time to really seek God and the things of God. I know it’s easier said than done. But God is not a man that He should lie. Take Him at His word. Trust Him to do just what He said.

Prayer:
Lord, As I learn to seek You more, I know everything that I desire will be added unto me. I believe what Your word says, when I seek You first, all the other things I need will be added. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
