When Men Are In Order AND Available

Devotional Reading: “9. Then Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel climbed up the mountain. 10. There they saw the God of Israel. Under his feet there seemed to be a surface of brilliant blue lapis lazuli, as clear as the sky itself. 11. And though these nobles of Israel gazed upon God, he did not destroy them. In fact, they ate a covenant meal, eating and drinking in his presence!”  - Exodus 24:9-11 NLT

At Mt. Sinai...
Much more thought/consideration is given to the beginning of this passage. Exodus 24 is mostly famous for its recording of Moses going up to receive the tablets with the Ten Commandments that God himself etched. I would like to call your attention in to one of the events that immediately followed Moses’ 40-days experience. It’s the endorsement or validation of the priests and elders. Certainly not that they needed to confirm nor agree with what God did, but God has a way of giving us a chance to participate in His program. Our agreement is always for our betterment. And before the people were brought into the loop, the leaders were given an opportunity to become vested.

The Priests and Elders met with God…
Note: They had to make the climb to be in the right place. Secondly, their obedience took them to the place they needed to be in order to see God. Though we cannot decipher exactly what they saw, we understand that it was under His feet, the footstool of God. Blue sapphire or “the sea of glass before the throne of God” referenced in Revelation 4:6, confirmation that God had CHANGED THEIR CIRCUMSTANCES. The bricks they made in bondage…what the devil meant for evil…God has exchanged for precious stones…God made it good!

The Father Communed with them…
They were allowed to eat and drink in the presence of the Lord to be reminded that He desires fellowship with us. In every age God has a way of letting His people know that He has NOT changed!

Head of Household…
Our God is a God of order! The precedent of God’s plan was long established before Exodus 24. What we see here is a great example of how He does what He does. But don’t ever be confused to believe that He’ll wait or hold up His plan because the ones who were “supposed to be in place” were not. God will ALWAYS use the next available.
