“Fear the Lord”
Scripture: Ecclesiastes 12:14

“For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil.”

Devotion:
The Preacher – Solomon in verse 13 of this chapter says, let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter; well the conclusion in verse 14 lets us know that God will bring every work that we do into judgment, whether it be done in secret or openly, good or evil.  Solomon informs the people of this truth after they have tried to do everything to gain satisfaction in life on their own.

We must fear God. He knows everything that we do, even the things we think we are doing in “private.”  He knows when our deeds are good or evil and whether we are acting with a pure heart or a heart of malice and deceit toward our neighbor. We must remain focused on Him and remember that everything we do will fall under His judgment.  Solomon admonishes us to fear Him and follow His commandments.  It is in our best interest to know Him and know what His will is, and what the consequences of not keeping His commandments are.  This is why we need the Holy Spirit who will guide us daily to live a life pleasing to the Lord, because all that we do should be done to the glory of God.   We should pray and ask God for a discerning heart, a heart to distinguish between right and wrong, a heart of wisdom as Solomon did in 1 Kings 3:9.  In the end, we want to hear Him say well done, thou good and faithful servant….

Prayer:
Lord we ask that you would help us to fear You and obey Your commandments. Give us the wisdom to worship You, to love You with all of our hearts, souls, minds, and strength; to trust You and to do what Your Word says to do.  In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
