"Sanctify Yourself"
Scripture: John 17:19

“And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.”

Devotion: Sanctify means to be set apart or to declare as holy or to consecrate. Jesus was still praying to the Father for his disciples because he knew he was about to leave them. He knew that once He left, they would need to be ready. He had taught them throughout His ministry and now was the time that they would have to lean on those teachings. In our daily walk with God, we must sanctify ourselves so that we are ready when trouble arises. One cannot prepare for an emergency when the emergency is happening. You need to have all bases covered – prayer, fasting, reading your Bible – so that when the test comes, you can respond in a Christ-like manner.

Doing the things necessary to sanctify ourselves is not easy. It requires sacrificing time, resources, and people. We must give God the time that is due unto Him to fully walk in the purpose for which He has called us. We must give of the resources that He has blessed us with, knowing that it does not belong to us, but to God. Lastly, we must put aside those people in our lives who are a hindrance to us. It seems like a lot, but the word “sanctify” is not to be taken lightly. Walking this walk requires fortitude, confidence and perseverance.  

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for the process of sanctification. Help us to fully commit to the process, knowing that when we emerge, we will come forth as gold. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
