"Jesus: Sent by God"
Scripture: John 17:8

“For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.”

Devotion: In this lesson today, Jesus is praying to the Father for His disciples. In verse 8, he states that the disciples have heard the word, believe the Word and believe that Jesus was sent by God. This is the formula we must follow today when we minister to people. We must first hear the Word, which means we must be connected to a church family where the Bible is being taught. We must then receive the Word, become saved, sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost. We will continue to be taught until such time as we are sent to minister. We must understand how profound this scripture is. The disciples heard the words of Jesus, received it and realized that Jesus was the promised Messiah that was foretold in the scriptures.

What makes it so much more profound is that some who were considered learned and were able to read the scripture in that time did not believe in Jesus because of appearances. We cannot allow appearances to block us from seeing the truth. When we receive Jesus, we believe that he was sent by God for us, and we must proclaim this news to all that will hear. If you have any doubt, ask the Lord to remove it and proclaim that Jesus is Lord and was sent by the Father to take our place at the cross.

Prayer: Lord, we thank You for sending your Son Jesus to die for us. Help us to spread the good news of Jesus’ life, death and resurrection to all that will hear. Father, remove any doubt that we may have in our heart so that we can serve you faithfully. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
