Luke 2:52
52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.
Devotional:
Many people are born with special gifts and talents that were just given to them by God. They didn’t ask for it nor studied for it, they were just there. I remember the moment it was discovered that I could sing. I was five years old in kindergarten. We would go to music class in the afternoon and be loved by our favorite teacher, Mrs. Douglas. Every student loved Mrs. Douglas. She was pretty, smart, could sing, and play the piano. She would give us drills to do. Do, Rae, Me Fa So La Ti Do. Do Ti La So Fa Me Rae Do. She would take us up and down the scales of the piano. When it was time for us to prepare for our annual Spring school program, she would select the song’s leaders from those who could do their scales perfectly. I was one of those who could. I remember my first solo. Sing, Sing a Song. I sang soprano and went all the way up to the rafters with my high pitch voice. That was the start of my singing. Now, even though I could sing on the Elementary Glee Club, I wasn’t mature enough to sing on the Primary Glee Club. Ms. Douglas later became my vocal coach and piano teacher. I went on to sing in every choir in and out of school. Now I sing all over the world.
Jesus had to go through the same thing. He was conceived with a purpose. He was born with a purpose, and He knew what that purpose was. He was even bold enough to tell his parents that He had to be about His Father’s business at the age of 12. Prior to Him saying that, He was missing for three days. They later found him in the temple sitting among the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions. The teachers were amazed by His intelligence and His understanding and His answers. But his parents were not so impressed. Actually, they were very upset with him as they had been looking all over for Him. Jesus says to them, “why did you have to look for me? Did you not know that I had to be in My Father’s house?” Meaning, you know I’m a church boy, where else would I be.
They didn’t understand what He was saying, so Jesus had to go home and be submissive and obedient to his parents. Now, his mother knew what he meant, but she had to keep it in her heart because she knew he wasn’t ready yet. While He waited for His time to come, he grew in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and men. Jesus was being prepared to teach like the other leaders.
It can be very challenging for us when we know that we’re gifted to do something, but we don’t have the experience to go forth yet. If we allowed the enemy to get into our heads, we would think our parents or spiritual leaders were holding us back. But that’s not the case. You see, t hey have wisdom, knowledge and understanding of things we haven’t experienced before. They have our best interests at heart, so they make the wise decision to keep us home and safe until the time is right. That’s how Jesus is. He prepares us through the small things in life that will in turn propel us to our main stage. Ministry.
As you go throughout your day today, think about the many times you had to wait until you were mature enough to do what you thought you were ready to do. Aren’t you glad you were held back? Look at it this way, you weren’t held back because you couldn’t do it, you were held back because it wasn’t time for you to do it.50 20 20 20 20 Recent
