“The Bucket Garden”

Jeremiah 31:12
12 Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of the Lord, for wheat, and for wine, and for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

Devotional:
After COVID-19 hit and we couldn’t go to the grocery stores, I decided it was time I start myself a garden. So, I started looking at YouTube videos about home gardening. I knew I couldn’t plant in my yard because of the roots, so I had to be creative. I stumbled upon a YouTube channel on gardening in buckets. I watched them over and over making sure I understood the process and what material I needed to start my garden.

I already had some soil and seeds laying around that I had planned on using, but never did. I planted my garden in those buckets, and it started to grow. I was very excited about the results. I reaped a great harvest that year, so to the point that I had enough to share with my neighbors, family, and friends. The blessings are still growing every year in my bucket garden.

In this scripture, Jeremiah is again sharing the word of The Lord to the children of Israel. In verse 12, Jeremiah tells Israel that the Lord has redeemed them and ransomed them from the one stronger than them. Their previous king. He was letting them know that He was going to take care of them again and be their good shepherd. And that was something they could rejoice about.

As their good shepherd, He was going to give them grain, wine, and olive oil, as well as sheep and cattle. They would be so blessed that their souls would be overjoyed and running like a well that never runs dry. Wow, what a blessing it is to have an endless flow of blessings. Like a garden that never stops producing. He is the same good shepherd for us. When we delight ourselves in Him and seek Him first in all our ways, we too can have an endless flow of joy like a garden that produces a harvest in and out of season.

As you go through day 19 of your Daniel fast, think about the endless blessings God has given you. What a joy it is to feast on the goodness of The Lord, even when other’s wells are dry, He continues to provide an endless harvest for us, His children.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being our good, good shepherd. One who takes care of his sheep and always makes sure we have an endless supply of what we need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
