Daily Devotional - Seeing Beyond What Is: The Vision - Week 43 - Day 294 - 10/21/26 - "A New Thing"

Author: Evangelist Jamie Hoffman

“A New Thing”
Scripture: Isaiah 42:9

"Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

Devotion:
There is something exciting about opening something new and fresh out of a box. We naturally cannot wait to open it up like a child on Christmas Day. However, nothing compares to the newness that comes when we receive the gift of salvation and God’s deliverance.

In today’s Scripture, Isaiah is letting the exiled Israelites know the past is behind them, but the promise of God is before them. The Israelites constantly struggled with their faith. Despite God’s deliverance time after time, they were more focused on what they saw with their natural eyes; they failed to see with their spiritual eyes. They often forgot God’s faithfulness and goodness to them.

Isaiah reminds them that the past is over and new things are coming. Sometimes we have to remind ourselves of this truth. The enemy tries to use the pain of our past to destroy the purpose of our future. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves that we have escaped the bondage of our past and entered the freedom of our future. However, I am sure that if we all reflect on our lives like the Israelites, we can declare without hesitation that even in those difficult times God has been good to us.

What I love most about God is that He has even greater in store for us. God has no limits nor boundaries, and when we fully lay down our will for His; He continues to renew and grow us the more.

Prayer:
God, thank You for the plans You have for us. Help us trust You at Your Word and obey You in every area of our lives. We are leaning on and depending on You. Thank You for the new things that You have in store for us and help us continue to submit to Your will for our lives. Amen.
