"Good Fruit”
Scripture: Matthew 12:33

“Either make the tree good, and his fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt: for the tree is known by his fruit”
 
Devotion:
When I go into the grocery store, and I select my fruit, I am looking for “good fruit.” I don’t want brown spots, bruises, or rotten places on my fruit. Rotten fruit doesn't look or taste appealing. Because we are connected to the true and living vine, our words, character, and deeds as Christians should display the fruit of the Spirit–good fruit.

The context of today’s Scripture comes after the Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Satan. Jesus rebuked them, using the metaphor of a tree and its fruit to show that good character produces good fruit, and evil character produces bad fruit. The fruit we produce in our lives shows the true sign of our connection to God. How much love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control do we have?

Prayer:
Lord, help us stay connected to You and walk obediently in the purpose You have for our lives. Help us exemplify the fruit of the Spirit in our daily lives. Amen.
