“Humble, Not High Minded”
Scripture: Philippians 2:3-4, AMP

“Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit [through factional motives, or strife], but with [an attitude of] humility [being neither arrogant nor self-righteous], regard others as more important than yourselves. Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

Devotion:
Paul’s words in Philippians 2:3–4 challenge the natural pull of human pride. Our culture often rewards self-promotion, competition, and personal gain, yet Scripture calls believers to a radically different mindset—one shaped by humility. Humility is not thinking less of ourselves, but thinking of ourselves less, choosing to value others without diminishing the worth God has placed within us.

Being “not high-minded” means resisting the urge to elevate our own opinions, successes, or desires above those around us. We no longer need to prove ourselves or protect our status. Instead, we are free to serve, listen, and love with genuine concern for others. Humility is active and flows from Christ. It is seen in how we treat people, how we respond in disagreement, and how willingly we consider the needs of others. When we walk in humility, we reflect the heart of Christ Himself, who modeled selfless love and obedience.

Prayer:
Lord, teach me to walk in true humility. Help me to see others through Your eyes and to value their needs alongside my own. May my words, actions, and attitudes honor You and demonstrate Your love to those around me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
