“The True Source”
Scripture: John 15:1–2

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.”

Devotion:
Jesus makes a bold declaration: “I am the true vine.” In a world full of substitutes—titles, platforms, relationships, accomplishments—He reminds us there is only one true source.

We often try to draw life from other vines. We look to people for validation, to success for identity, to comfort for peace. But none of those can sustain us. They may inspire us for a moment, but they cannot supply us for a lifetime. Only Christ can.

The branch has one responsibility: stay connected. It does not strain to produce fruit; it simply abides in the vine. The life of the vine flows naturally into the branch. When we remain in Jesus—through prayer, obedience, and trust—His strength becomes our strength, and His character becomes our fruit.

Yet Jesus also speaks of pruning. The Father, the gardener, lovingly removes what hinders growth. Pruning is not punishment—it is preparation. Sometimes what feels like loss is actually God making room for greater fruitfulness. He cuts away distractions, unhealthy attachments, and misplaced dependencies so that we rely fully on the true source.

If you feel drained, check your connection. If you feel stretched, trust the pruning. Your life is sustained not by what surrounds you, but by who sustains you.

Prayer:
Father, help me to remain connected to Jesus, the true vine. Remove anything in my life that competes with Him as my source. Let Your life flow through me so that I bear fruit that glorifies You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
