“True Disciples”
Scripture: John 8:31, NIV
 
“To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples.‌”

Devotion:
In today’s Scripture, Jesus is telling the Jewish people who believed in Him that if they held fast to His instructions and teachings that they were “really” His disciples. After that, He lets them know they will know the truth, and the truth will set them free. As believers and followers of Christ, we know that obedience to God is a prerequisite if we want to walk in His purpose and will. When we obey God, we can walk boldly in Him without fear.

Once we confess that Jesus is Lord, He charges us to let someone else know about His goodness. Jesus came to redeem, restore, and empower us to share His Word with others so they can experience real truth. What is the truth? In John 14:6 says, “Jesus answered, I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the way, that’s why we follow Him. Jesus is the truth; that’s why we believe in Him. Jesus gives us new life; that’s why we are redeemed by Him. We are free in Jesus’ name! Therefore, once we become free, we can let someone else know what God did for us so they can experience that same freedom through Jesus Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the freedom we have in You. Help us share Your truth with others so they can experience freedom in You. Amen.
