“Nourished by The Word”
Scripture: Matthew 4:4
 
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”

Devotion:
Matthew 4:4 reminds us that while physical food is necessary for healthy bodies, the Word of God is essential for healthy spirits. Jesus spoke these words when Satan tempted Him in the wilderness. Although Jesus was physically hungry, He knew that satisfying His physical appetite could never be more important than remaining faithful and obedient to God.

As believers, we face many things that compete for our attention and attempt to provide temporary satisfaction. Material possessions, success, relationships, entertainment, and even personal accomplishments, to name a few, may bring temporary satisfaction, but none of those things can nourish our souls the way God's Word can. We need the Word of God to guide our decisions, strengthen our faith, correct our hearts, and encourage us when we become weary.

We will become spiritually stronger and able to resist temptation when we find ourselves praying, studying, meditating, and obeying the Word of God. We cannot expect to remain spiritually strong if we do not feed on the Word for our spiritual strength.

So, before allowing the voices of this world to shape your thoughts when you arise each day, make the Word of God a priority. Turn your heart and mind toward the Lord, and you can expect to receive His promises whenever you face temptation, confusion, or discouragement. Remember, we cannot live by bread alone; we must apply His Word to our daily lives for guidance, strength, and direction.

Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving us Your Word which strengthens us spiritually. Help us to hunger and thirst for Your Word more than the things of this world. And when we are tempted, discouraged, or need to become more focused, give us the mind to understand and obey Your Word for every situation in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
