“The Power of Giving”
Scripture: Proverbs 28:27, NIV
 
“Those who give to the poor will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to them receive many curses.”
 
Devotion:
Jesus showed and taught us great examples of how to care for the less fortunate. Jesus taught that whatever you do for the "least of these," you do directly unto Him. Jesus not only emphasized the practice of taking care of the needy, but He also showed it in action. Jesus healed, fed, and restored those in need.

Today’s Scripture lets us know that giving to the poor is a blessing, but closing our eyes to the needs of others is a curse. When my kids were little, they loved the movie Robots. In the movie, the main character lived by the philosophy, “see a need, fill a need.” He used his creativity and gifts to restore and fix outdated and broken robots. Although society focused on shiny new upgrades, he focused on making a difference in his community by helping others.

Sometimes we can get so focused on our own goals and accomplishments that we forget to take the time to think of others and how we can be a blessing to them. When God blesses us, it’s not so we can hoard those blessings and keep them to ourselves. God blesses us so that we can bless others. When we extend kindness by meeting the needs of others, uplifting and encouraging them, and interceding for them in prayer, it makes a significant difference. When we see needs and God has given us the ability to fill them, we must not take it lightly. Whatever we do for those in need, we do it unto the glory of God.

Prayer:
Lord, help us give to those in need with a sincere heart. Let it be unselfish and without judgment. Help us spread Your love not just in our words, but also in our deeds. Amen.
