“A Heart that Produces Fruit”
Scripture: Luke 8:15, NLT
 
“And the seeds that fell on the good soil represent honest, good-hearted people who hear God’s word, cling to it, and patiently produce a huge harvest.”

Devotion:
I like the way this verse is written in the New Living Translation, it describes Jesus Christ saying that the good soil represents those honest, good-hearted people who hear the Word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. The focus is not just on hearing, but it is also on holding on to the Word. A lot of times we hear God’s Word, but we do not always allow the Word to take root in our lives. The distractions, hardships, and sometimes periods of delay in our lives can cause what we’ve heard to slip away. But “good-hearted people” this verse says, receives the Word, holds on to It, and remains committed even when things don’t seem to happen at the pace they expect.

The Scripture lets us know that fruit comes when we are patient. We should note that Spiritual growth is not instant, it’s just like a seed planted in the ground; it takes time to develop beneath the surface before anything is visible. There may be periods in our lives when it feels like nothing is happening, but just know that God is working within us.

In the meantime, let’s examine our hearts and make sure that we are nurturing it through God’s Word, prayer, obedience, and faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We want to be the good-hearted people who will bring forth much fruit to the glory of God.

Prayer:
Lord, create in me a good and honest heart that receives Your Word and holds on to It. Help me to remain patient as You work in my life. Strengthen me to stay faithful, even when I don’t see immediate results. Let Your Word grow in me and produce fruit that honors You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
