“Best Gifts”
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:31

“But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.”

Devotion:
Paul encourages believers to “covet earnestly”—to deeply desire—the best gifts. These spiritual gifts are not for personal elevation, but for the building of Christ’s body. Yet Paul quickly shifts our eyes to something even greater: “a more excellent way.” That “more excellent way” is love. Spiritual gifts are powerful, beautiful, and essential for the church.

The best gifts are those used with pure motives, led by the Holy Spirit, and grounded in love. Without love, even the most impressive gifts lose their value. Paul is teaching us balance: desire the gifts that will benefit the most people, that will bring the most glory to God, and that align best with His purpose for your life. But always remember that the greatest gift—the one that gives meaning to all others—is love. Love transforms ministry into worship. Love turns duty into devotion. Love makes ordinary service supernatural. Let us desire the best gifts, but let us also walk in the more excellent way that reflects Christ Himself.

Prayer:
Lord, Thank You for the gifts of the Spirit that You place within Your people. Teach me to operate in these gifts with humility, wisdom, and love. Let everything I do be rooted in the more excellent way that Jesus showed us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
