“The Greatest Gift of All”
Scripture: John 3:16

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Devotion:
John 3:16 is often called “the gospel in one verse” because it captures the heartbeat of God toward humanity. When sin separated mankind from God, He did not respond with anger or abandonment. Instead, He responded with love—an active, sacrificial, redeeming love. He gave His only begotten Son. This giving was not out of obligation but out of deep, immeasurable love. Jesus came willingly, laying down His life so that we might live eternally.

This is the greatest gift of all: Jesus Christ Himself. A gift not wrapped in paper but in flesh. A gift not placed under a tree but on a cross. A gift not meant for a select few but for “the world”—every nation, every background, every individual. And this gift must be received. God offers salvation freely, but the verse clearly says, “whosoever believeth in him.” Belief is the open hand that receives God’s gift. It is trusting Jesus as Savior, surrendering the heart, and choosing to walk in the eternal life He promises. May we be reminded that God’s love is still reaching, still giving, still saving. No matter what we face, the Cross remains our assurance that we are deeply loved.

Prayer:
Lord, Thank You for giving us the greatest gift of all—Your only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Help us to never take this gift for granted. Teach us to share this gift with others through our words, our actions, and our lives. Thank You for everlasting life through Christ. In Jesus Name, Amen!
