“Grace Beyond Our Efforts”
 Scripture: Ephesians 2:8
 
“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:”

Devotion:
This verse is so important for us in our Christian walk. Paul, who is believed to be the writer, lets us know that salvation is free. We are saved by grace through faith, not because we helped our neighbor, not because we got straight A’s in school, nor is it because we were well behaved and our parents’ “favorite” child. Grace is God’s unmerited favor; His undeserved love and kindness freely given to us, not because of anything that we have done, but because of Everything He has done!

From experience, everything in this world, it seems, must be earned, whether it is getting approval from those in charge, having successful careers, or even belonging to a certain group or clique. Thank God that He blesses us with a gift that is everlasting – the gift of Salvation that is not a reward for being good enough or spiritual enough. It is because of His loving kindness toward us that His Son, Jesus Christ made the Ultimate Sacrifice, freely and fully giving His life for us so we could have eternal life.

Let’s remember to be witnesses of God’s grace each day, because we are all sinners saved by God’s Amazing Grace!

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for the gift of grace. Thank You that we didn’t have to earn Your love or perform for Your acceptance. We thank You for meeting us where we are and for not leaving us there. Teach us to live our lives knowing that we received this gift from You through faith and help us to extend that same grace to others. May our lives reflect the fullness of Your grace and mercy. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
