“In Everything, Give Thanks”
Scripture: Ephesians 5:20, NIV

“always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

Devotion:
Growing up, the choir at my home church used to sing a song called, “In Everything Give Thanks.” The lyrics came directly from the text today. As I reflect on the text and the lyrics, no truer words have been spoken. So many times we find ourselves in situations that look or seem bleak, but believe it or not, things could be worse. The Word isn’t saying that we can’t feel some type of way when things happen, but it is saying that even in the midst of those things, we must be grateful to God for His grace. In other words, tell God thank you for everything. We don’t always understand why we have to go through certain things, but when we can find reason to tell God thank you, it changes our perspective and helps us recognize God being in the midst. So the next time we want to complain, let’s hold fast to today’s text and give thanks to God for ALL things.

Prayer:
Lord, we thank You for Your long suffering with us. We know that everything isn’t always going to go the way we want, but we are grateful to have You in the midst. Help us to always give thanks for everything You do for us. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
