“Watchful and Thankful”
Scripture: Colossians 4:2, NIV

"Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.”

Devotion:
How blessed are we that we serve a God who wants a personal relationship with us? How blessed are we that we can call on Him and communicate with Him any time day or night? When I was younger I didn’t quite understand the gift and power of prayer. I used prayer as a last resort because I didn’t know how important it was to my spiritual strength and growth. The trick of the enemy is to keep us so focused on our problems, our lack, and our issues that we forget to seek God through prayer.

The Scripture today says we should “devote” ourselves to prayer. That means that we have daily time set apart when we pray and seek God’s face. We don’t use prayer as an afterthought, but it is our first thought. Not only that, but the Word tells us to be “watchful” and “thankful.” We are living in a time where it seems that this world is turning upside down, but God! God is on the throne, and He is still in control. We must pray, watch, and above all give thanks! We are not operating from a place of defeat, but of victory! God is in control, and He is working ALL things out for our good.

Prayer:
Lord, help us seek You at the start of our day and throughout our day. Help us stay focused on You and not the cares and distractions of this world. Help us to pray, be watchful, and be thankful. We give You all the glory and the praise. Amen.
