“Give Thanks”
Scripture: Psalm 136:1, NIV

“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good. His love endures forever.”

Devotion:
When we take time to focus on the goodness of God instead of the distractions and cares of this world, we experience God’s peace. God’s peace is unlike man's; an entire storm can be raging, and we can be found resting easy in the assurance that God is in control and working all things out for our good. Thankfulness is a way of life, each day we have the opportunity to choose to speak life with our words. It’s easy to be negative wrapped in this flesh. However, it takes a consecrated heart to continually speak life even when things look dire. God is still good! His love is still everlasting! When we open our mouths, we need to be mindful that what we release into the atmosphere comes to fruition. That is why it is so important that instead of mumbling, grumbling, and complaining, we have a word of thanksgiving and praise in our mouths. As we prepare to celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, let us be mindful that “thanksgiving” or “giving thanks” is something that we as the children of God should be doing daily. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 declares, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

Prayer:
Lord, help us! Help us to be thankful no matter what we are going through. Help us to lift up Your name and give You the glory and the honor that is due to You at all times. We bless and praise Your holy name! Amen.
