“Marinated Words”
Scripture: Proverbs 18:21

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”

Devotion:
Proverbs 18 reminds me of the importance of words. It’s the little foxes that destroy the vine and it’s the little tongue that destroys visions. We have what we say. We have the power to say things that be not as though they were. The Scripture reminds us that spoken words do matter.

Our words carry weight. They can breathe life into someone’s weary soul or cut deeply. You can talk yourself out of something and talk your way into something. Whatever we speak, our souls will listen. Our soul will marinate on those words, and sooner or later, those very words will manifest.

This Scripture also warns us against pride and encourages humility, listening, and discernment. In a noisy world, wisdom often begins with silence and a heart that is ready to understand. Sometimes, it’s best to keep the vision close to your heart, and let God reward you openly.

Prayer:
Lord, help us to guard our words and speak life. Teach us to listen more than we speak, and to seek wisdom in every conversation. Thank You for the gift of true friendship and the safety we find in Your name. In Jesus’ name’ Amen.
