“I Got You!”
Scripture: John 14:27, NLT

“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.”

Devotion:
I remember growing up I had a favorite uncle. He was my grandmother’s youngest brother. I always thought he was so cool. He would come visit and every time, he had something to give me as a gift. I was appreciative of everything that he gave to me. One time he came and he didn’t have a gift for me. I wasn’t disappointed but he certainly was. My grandmother and mom told him it was okay, that I didn’t need any more toys or trinkets to play and fidget with. That didn’t go over too well with him. He told me in front of them, “Joe, I got you! Next time I come, I’ll have something for you and your grandma or your mom can't take it from you either!” And guess what, he had something for me next time he came. Today’s Scripture reminded me of that situation. Jesus spoke to His disciples and in essence to us, that He was leaving us with His peace in our minds and hearts and the world couldn’t take it away from us. This serves as great consolation that no matter how weird life gets, we have access to a gift that trumps all feelings of defeat and heartache; the peace of God. It’s as if Jesus is saying, “I got you!”

Prayer:
Jesus, we thank You for the peace of mind and heart that You give to us. Having this gift is one of the best that can be given. Knowing that You got us, means everything! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
