“Abounding in Hope”
Scripture: Romans 15:13

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

Devotion:
Some say hope is just wishful thinking, but I would offer that it is so much more. Hope is the confident expectation rooted in the unchanging promises of God. In Romans 15:13, Paul describes God not just as the giver of hope, but as the God of hope Himself. Hope flows from His very nature. This verse is a prayerful blessing—a request that God would fill His people with all joy and peace as they trust Him. These two fruit—joy and peace—are not the result of perfect circumstances, but of a heart anchored in faith. When we believe God’s Word and trust His heart, He fills us from the inside out.

But Paul doesn’t stop there. He says we abound in hope—overflow with it—not by our own effort, but through the power of the Holy Ghost. It is the Holy Spirit who strengthens our faith, reminds us of God’s promises, and lifts our eyes when the world tries to drag us down. As we face times of uncertainty and change (good and bad), let us remember our call to live as a person of unshakable hope—hope that endures through trials, shines in darkness, and points others to Jesus.

Prayer:
Lord, I come to You today in need of the joy, peace, and strength that only You can give. Fill me, Lord—not with what the world offers, but with what comes from believing in You. Let me abound in hope, not only for myself, but so that others may see Your light in me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
