“His Joy, My Strength”
Scripture: Nehemiah 8:10

“Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Devotion:
In a crucial moment in Israel’s history, Nehemiah and Ezra read the Word to the people. As the words were read aloud, hearts were pierced, tears were shed, and conviction ran deep; and the people saw just how far they were from God. But Nehemiah urged the people to rejoice when he said “Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet... for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” This verse lets us know something monumental, our strength doesn’t come from self-will, perfection, or relentless effort. It comes from joy—not ours, but HIS joy!

The “joy of the Lord” lets us know that God delights in us, He takes pleasure in forgiving and restoring us, and He dwells with us. When we know this, we have a strength that can move mountains, destroy yolks and break down walls. When you are tired, discouraged, or overwhelmed, remind yourself that only if you trust in Him, will He give you joy unspeakable. A joy that does not fade because of circumstances, but an everlasting joy from our Father.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your joy. Help me remember that Your joy is my strength—not my own efforts, not my achievements, but Your deep, unwavering joy in me. Teach me to rejoice in You, as You rejoice in me. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
