“Love is from God”
Scripture: 1 John 4:7-8, NIV
 
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

Devotion:
Back in the 90s, there was a famous commercial, and it said, Got milk? Today, to coin another phrase even more powerful than good old Vitamin D, got love? The Word of God lets us know in 1 John 4:16, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” Love is the standard for all of us, because it is what connects us to God. The very essence of God is love. If we say we love God, and we don’t love others, we don’t truly have love. The Word declares in 1 John 4:8, “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

The reason people can’t get along, the reason families are divided, and the reason the divorce rate is so high is that people are loving based on their own standards and principles and not those of God. God’s standard said I am going to extend grace to this fallen world and send my only begotten son to redeem my children back to me. That’s love! We don’t deserve it, we can’t earn it, and we definitely can’t repay it. So why is it so hard for us to give it to others when the source of love is God?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for Your love for us. We don’t take it lightly, but we desire to show that same love and compassion to others in all that we say and do. Amen.
