“God’s Word is Alive”
Scripture: Hebrews 4:12

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Devotion:
Our Pastor often reminds us that God’s Word is alive! It applies to us today and will never fade away, because it will be with us through eternity.  In this Scripture, we read how powerful God’s Word is – this metaphor describes how deep it cuts and that it cuts in both directions, coming and going.  God’s Word continues to speak to us, convict us, heal and guide us throughout this life.  It will always be effective.

When we read the Bible, it is up to us to let it not only comfort us, but change us.  Have you ever been convicted when reading or hearing the Word?  It can reach deep down in our souls. Some even say it comes down our row; taps us on our shoulders, pulls away the cover-just in case we are in denial.  It reveals and exposes feelings, thoughts and desires that we may have buried and are not aware that they even exist. We have to humble ourselves and be willing to allow the Word to confront, comfort, and change us. When we feel this conviction while reading or hearing the Word, let’s understand that it is an act of love, and not meant to tear us down. So, let’s make sure that we are applying the Word to our lives daily and letting it truly transform us.

Prayer:
Lord, we thank You for Your Word which is alive and powerful. Give us the ability to read Your Word, and let it expose those things within us that are not pleasing to You. Help us to accept Your Word and apply it to our lives, even when it hurts; and mold us so that we can be more like You.  In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
