“Love One Another”
Scripture: Romans 13:8

"Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law."

Devotion:
This verse is very important in how we as Christians live our lives today.  A large amount of problems, disagreements and disappointments could be avoided if these words were applied to our hearts.  Paul in this Scripture encourages believers to live responsibly by prioritizing love for others above everything else. He emphasizes in this verse that the only thing that we will always owe is LOVE for one another.  Love is our ongoing debt as followers of Christ.  It is the greatest commandment given to us. When we love one another, we are being obedient to God.  It should be easy to love, because when we love others, whether it is our family members, friends, strangers, neighbors or enemies, it is not about our feelings, it is about fulfilling the law of Christ.  When we truly love, we would not harm others or ourselves.

I read the following quote which is a great way to interpret and apply Romans 13:8. It says, “We live in a world driven by transactions—give and take, buy and sell, owe and repay, but Paul introduces a different kind of economy here: one where love is the only debt that never gets paid off.” And because we have already received Christ’s love, it is our responsibility to love in deed - demonstrating love through our actions and attitudes toward others daily.

Prayer:
Father, we thank You for loving us unconditionally. Teach us to live out that love that You first showed to us on a daily basis; and not only when it is convenient, but even when we struggle to love. Please give us the strength, wisdom and ability to see others as You see them, and not only love certain people, but to love all men. Let others glorify You because of the love that we share. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
