“Two Wrongs Don’t Make a Right!”
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:15 NIV

“Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.”

Devotion:
I was raised by my grandmother, mother, and aunt who were and still are powerful women. Their character is by far the best I’ve ever witnessed in my life. There were situations in which I knew that other people did them wrong and instead of them retaliating, they kept on going, never switching up on anybody who wronged them in any way. I recall a conversation I had with my grandmother, once I got older, about a situation where someone had wronged her. I asked her why she didn't retaliate. Her words to me were, “Joe, two wrongs don’t make a right.” Those words still resonate with me as a grown man. Her words derive from today’s text. Just because someone does us wrong, does not give us the green light to do them wrong as well. Instead, we must continue to treat them with the respect that we are supposed to. If not, God will hold us responsible. Let God handle the situation because He can handle it better than we can. We shouldn’t allow people to make us switch up and act out of character. God has placed goodness in of each of us, and it’s our duty to cultivate that goodness and show it to all mankind, regardless of how or what they may try to do to us. So brothers and sisters, the next time we find ourselves facing a crossroads when someone does us dirty, remember that two wrongs don’t make a right!

Prayer:
Father God, we thank You for making us fearfully and wonderfully. You placed goodness inside of each of us to show kindness to all mankind. We ask that You help us when we find ourselves lacking self-control and want to retaliate when others do us wrong. Help us to remember that we are better than that and continue to strive for greatness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
