“Thanks Is What I Do”
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians 5:18 AMP
 
“In every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus.”

Devotion:
What does it mean to “give thanks”? Do I only give thanks when I get my way? When should I give thanks? Today’s Scripture lets us know that giving thanks is not a one off situation – it’s a decision that takes discipline and faith. When we choose to give thanks, we cannot be selective about when or why we do it. Paul is letting us know that we must continually give thanks, not because everything is all good, but because we know God is working everything out for our good. We give thanks in the good, bad, ugly and indifferent because we trust in God’s purpose and plan for our lives. As we develop a habit of giving thanks, we find that no matter what the enemy tries to throw at us, we are prepared in thanksgiving and faith that God will work it out. The song says, “Praise is What I do”, I say Giving Thanks is What I Do! Take a moment to thank God for all that He has done, is doing, and is going to do.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for all things – the good, the bad, the yes and the no. I trust in Your will and I know that You only want what’s best for me. Help me to remember to continually give thanks knowing where all my help comes from. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
