Daily Devotional - Reflection: Lest We Forget - WK21 - 5/22/25 - Day 142 - "Cleansed From The Inside Out"

“Cleansed from the Inside Out”
Scripture: Psalm 51:10 KJV
 
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

Devotion:
To make sure we are in good shape physically each year we go to our doctor and get an annual physical. That physical lets us know how healthy or unhealthy we are. Our spiritual well-being is just as important. Every now and then we have to do a heart checkup. God am I loving like You love? Am I responding with grace? Is Your light shining through me? Are my words and actions lining up with Your Word?

In today’s Scripture King David, who God said was a man after His own heart, was crying out to God to cleanse his heart and renew his spirit. Isn’t it amazing that despite David’s shortcomings God still called him a man after His own heart? David made mistakes, and he came short of the glory of God numerous times. But, he also knew how to repent and cry out to God for redemption. He knew how to pray, worship, and seek God with a sincere and contrite heart. We are not perfect, and we are going to make mistakes be it willingly or unwillingly. The key is being humble enough to know when we make a mistake or come short of the goodness of God, we can repent and get it right with Him. Proverbs 4:23 lets us know we should keep our hearts with all diligence because out of it flows the issues of life. Matthew 15 lets us know that it’s not what we put in our bodies that defiles us, it's what comes out of our hearts. Our hearts are the center of who we are, everything we do stems from our hearts, that’s why it’s important we seek God daily, hide His Word in our heart, and consecrate this flesh.

Prayer:
Lord, create in us clean hearts. If You find anything in us that should not be, cleanse and wash us anew. Amen.
