“A New Thing”
Scripture: Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the
wasteland."

Devotion:
It is easy to allow our past to steal the purpose of our future if we are not careful. We can become fixated on past mistakes, hurts, issues, or situations and this can cause us to stay stagnated and stuck. Constantly focusing on our past sometimes stops us from living in the gift of our present. Our past is important because it helped shape us into who we are. However, we can’t let our past hinder our future growth. When we mess up, the trick of the old nasty dirty enemy is to spotlight our wrongs on a billboard and try to make us live in shame instead of living in the repentant grace of God. Today’s lesson admonishes us to leave the past in the past because God desires to do something new in us. The Word says, God will take care of us in the wilderness and provide for us streams in a wasteland. Basically, it’s saying we must forget the past and know that God desires to make us over again. Not only will He make us over again, but He will provide all our needs in the process.

Prayer:
Lord, we thank You that You make all things new. Order our steps day by day so that we can continue to glorify and give You praise.
