“Divided Loyalties”
Scripture: John 10:19 NLT

“When he said these things, the people were again divided in their opinions about him.”

Devotion:
In my Language Arts class, we read a story called, “Divided Loyalties.” Basically, it’s a historical fiction text about a family who is divided in their opinions of the American Revolution. Even though they shared the same experiences, they had differing opinions and perspectives on which side was justified, the Patriots or the Loyalists. This reminds me of today’s text. In this Scripture, Jesus is teaching about Him being the Good Shepherd and how His sheep know His voice. He goes on to say that He came that we may have life and have it more abundantly. After His teaching, the people were perplexed and divided in their opinions of Him. Some said Jesus was possessed with demons, while others were amazed and believed in Him. They each experienced the teachings of Our Savior, but had differing opinions. We must be careful that we don’t entertain those who would try to divide the people of God. Or else, we will find ourselves in the same predicament as the people in this verse, with divided loyalties.

Prayer:
Lord, we thank You for giving us the ability to think for ourselves with a sound mind. While we may have a sound mind, help us to always walk by faith, believing in Your Word, and not waver in our opinion of how great You are. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
