“No Shame Here”
Scripture: Romans 12:9-13 NKJV

“Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another; not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the needs of the saints, given to hospitality.”

Devotion:
I’m reminded of one of my parents’ neighbors, Ms. Kitty. Ms. Kitty was known as the neighborhood drunk. She wasn’t just the neighborhood drunk she was also my dad’s cousin. On some days, her drunkenness led her to walk down the street without any clothes. We would shout inside the house, calling out to Daddy that Ms. Kitty was walking down the street without any clothes. My dad would take a sheet from the linen closet, hurry after Ms. Kitty, and gently cover her to restore her dignity. There were many days Ms. Kitty walked down the street without clothes and my dad would cover her up. I cannot recall my father ever reminding Ms. Kitty of what he did once she sobered up. What he did wasn’t important for her to know. What was important to know is he did it for her.

This paints a powerful picture of compassion and dignity. My dad’s actions reflect a deep kindness—choosing to protect rather than judge, to cover rather than expose. It’s a reminder that grace extends beyond words; sometimes, it’s found in quiet, selfless gestures. We are called to care for those in need and practice hospitality, showing Christ’s love through our actions.

Action Step:
Find a way today to actively love and serve—whether it’s reaching out to someone in need, offering encouragement, or practicing hospitality. Small acts of love reflect Christ in a powerful way.

Prayer:
Lord, help me love sincerely and serve wholeheartedly. Keep my heart devoted to You, filled with joy, patience, and prayer. Teach me to share what I have and welcome others with open arms. Amen.
