“If Only For One Night”
Scripture: I Peter 4:7-10 NLV

“The end of the world is near. You must be the boss over your mind. Keep awake so you can pray. Most of all, have a true love for each other. Love covers many sins. Be happy to have people stay for the night and eat with you. God has given each of you a gift. Use it to help each other. This will show God’s loving-favor.”

Devotion:
As I’ve stated in a previous devotion, my husband and I have opened our doors to many of our partners in ministry. I recall another member who needed a place to stay and came to us for help. When life happens, it’s good knowing you have people in your corner. People who don’t mind opening their doors and providing a place of safety, even if it’s just for one night. Being displaced, even for a night causes anxiety and uncertainty, even for believers. Situations come up that are out of your control, causing your world to be turned upside down. My husband and I didn’t ask any questions. We welcomed them into our home and ensured they had food and shelter.

Love, who we call “God,” is Love. He is the essence of what Love is. Since He is Love and dwells within us, we should naturally reflect Him to others, making them feel welcomed, valued, and free from shame.

Love isn’t just an emotion—it’s action. It means forgiving, serving, and giving without hesitation. Peter also encourages hospitality without complaint, emphasizing that every gift we have should be used to uplift and bless others. Whether it’s speaking encouragement, offering support, or simply listening, our service reflects God's grace and goodness.

Action Step:
Look for a way to serve someone today—whether through encouragement, generosity, or hospitality. Small acts of kindness bring great joy and strengthen the body of Christ.

Prayer:
Lord, help me to live with awareness and love. Teach me to serve others selflessly, using the gifts You’ve given me for Your glory. Let my heart be open to hospitality and my actions reflect Your grace. Amen.
